Man has used leather since the beginning
of time but only modern technology in tanning procedures
has made it possible to obtain a very high quality material
suitable to the most varied uses.
The word “leather” does not only mean the tanned
material, it also refers to a large range of choices, qualities
and characteristics which one must know in order to achieve the
desired results.
It’s most outstanding quality
is that being a “natural” product, leather
possesses the ability to “breathe”, which
is difficult to duplicate. The presence of wrinkles,
scars and healed insect bites is not only a natural characteristic
of leather; it also proves that this material is genuine
and thus refined and precious.
Leather is the skin of an animal which has been tanned and treated
to make it suitable for upholstering furniture. It is a natural
product. Each animal is unique and consequently each hide is
different. During the tanning and the treatment of the skins,
the hides are cleaned and corrected. This is done only to enhance
its beauty and make it usable. Therefore any scratches, scars,
brand marks, or insect bites that may be visible on the hides
must not be considered defects. These are the natural characteristics
of the leather and serve as proof that it is original and genuine.
